Key Responsibilities of the Control Systems Engineer:
Design & Code (PLC & HMI) development for the RTT machine controlControls code maintenance, problem resolution and troubleshootingDevelopment of interfaces to 3rd party airport systems (BHS) using industry standard protocols such as Ethernet/IP, Profibus, ProfiNet.Supporting Operations and Manufacturing with process automation toolsGeneral systems engineering, including testing and verification.Collaboration with other disciplines (Mechanical /Electrical /Electronics /Test) in the engineering teamApplication of good software version managementSupport activities for product lifecycle maintenance, such as obsolesce & cost reductionsUphold the Company’s core values of Integrity, Innovation, Accountability, and TeamworkDemonstrate behavior consistent with the Company’s Code of Ethics and ConductIt is the responsibility of every employee to report to their manager or a member of senior management any quality problems or defects in order for corrective action to be implemented and to avoid recurrence of the problemDuties may be modified or assigned at any time to meet the needs of the business
Skills & Experience Required:
Extensive PLC programming experience, preferably with Allen Bradley / RSLogix5000Programming for panel HMI’s or SCADA systemsGeneral systems engineering processes and procedures including requirements writing, system testing and verificationSignificant customer facing experience in a systems integration roleWorking within a disciplined code development & code maintaining environment with good configuration control Candidates should be degree qualified in Engineering or a similar technical subject. Equivalent experience is also acceptableExperience in Siemens PLC programming or Linux OS based systems and scripting would be an advantage. Knowledge of airport baggage handling systems would be a bonus but general experience of control and automation engineering will be considered

Due to a period of successful and sustained growth, a worldwide supplier of engineered products in West Lothian has a new vacancy for a Controls Engineer to join the team. On offer is a Monday to Friday 37.5 hour working week, a starting salary of up to £48,000 DOE. Holidays start at 33 days per year (including stats) rising to 35 after 5 years’ service. Pension – stakeholder with Standard Life – currently minimum 5% employee contribution with employer matching up to 10%. Also, a quarterly discretionary bonus if targets achieved. The primary focus is to maintain the current control platforms, assist in project conceptual designs, detail engineering, procurement, construction, and pre-operational testing as well as commissioning and start-up within a heavy engineering environment. As the Controls Engineer, the role will see you working in a heavy engineering environment. Your responsibilities will include:
Design and troubleshoot process control systems.Engineer, design and test electrical, instrumentation and automation systems associated with industrial manufacturing plants.PLC/HMI hardware/software design, programming, and troubleshooting.Develop and engineer electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and PLC logic.Design and implement process network infrastructure (Ethernet, Device Net, Control Net, etc.).Interface and communicate with vendors, process engineering, installation contractors and project management.Specify and procure controls hardware and field instrumentation.Database programming skills a plus. (SCADA)Compliance and enforcement of company, safety, environmental, government policies and regulations as they apply.Understand and assist in the application of company safety procedures, Lockout-Tag out and Arc Flash.High voltage authorised a person.
The successful Controls Engineer will have the following skills and experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in electrical engineering (Preferred)Experience in the electrical and engineering field, ideally in manufacturing.Demonstrated Control Systems competencyExperience in hydraulics, PLC controls (Allen Bradley)Well versed in Microsoft office programs and SQL Database knowledge preferred
